Luis Pereyra

was born on July 9, 1965 in Santiago del Estero. He studied choreography at the Teatro Colón and the Escuela Nacional de Danzas and completed extensive dance training in the fields of modern dance, classical ballet, jazz dance, folklore and tap dance. He also completed his music studies.

Luis Pereyra has since worked as a dancer and choreographer in globally successful tango productions, including the musical Tango Argentino from 1987 to 2000. For this he received the Tony Award for Best Choreography in 2000. In 2001, he took on the solo part in the opera Orestes – Last Tango. In the course of his tap and tango career, he has appeared in productions with Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Peter Coyote in the USA. In England, he danced in front of Lady Diana and Prince Charles and taught both of them to dance. The Rheinische General Anzeiger ran the headline “Only Pereyra can outdo himself”. The Los Angeles Times called him the “Fred Astaire of Argentina”.

His tours have taken him through the USA, Latin America, Europe and Japan.

Luis Pereyra founded his own company El Sonido de mi Tierra (The Sound of My Earth) in 1996. Since 2016, it has been performing in the production VIDA! Argentino.

Together with his wife, Luis Pereyra took over the artistic direction of the tango houses Café de los Angelitos in Argentina for several years in 2007, El Viejo Almacén from 2011 to 2017 and Aqui Folklore in 2011.

Luis Pereyra was awarded the Argentine National Culture Prize for his works in 2012 and 2016.
